About

Matt writes classical concert music, opera, prog-punk, chiptune and experimental electronica, sometimes for nobody-but-himself and sometimes for, among others, Royal Opera, Aldeburgh Music, Opera North, BBC Proms, London Sinfonietta, Scenatet, Alarm Will Sound, Art on the Underground, The Imaginary Museum and English Heritage. His music is often written for conventional instruments, but sometimes for new instruments such as a hacked pinball table, or repurposed objects such as a giant electric fan, and has been performed at venues including Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Yard Theatre, Royal Albert Hall, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, Pompidou Centre, V&A Museum, Hundred Years Gallery, King’s Cross Station and the inner circle of Stonehenge.

Matt has been artist in residence at Southbank Centre, Tokyo Wondersite and Royal Opera, and his music has been called ‘spellbindingly beautiful’ (TEMPO), ‘neurotic, fiercely atmospheric’ (The Times), ‘strikingly original’ (The Spectator), ‘crazed motherboard abuse’ (We Need No Swords), and ‘pretty damn great’ (Bleep).
